Now I want to just say – it says “free” on the cover. I’m not here to defy the wisdom of the world. Everything that’s great ain’t going to be free.

You know we can talk about all this shit. You go to a food bank – the food is moldy. You get a free car – the shit breaks down. You get a free date with a girl and she’s a psycho. I’m sure if you’re a girl and you’re reading this book, you’ve got worse stories than me about free shit just going sideways.

Every time that there’s something free, there’s a catch.

Also, I’m not different in this regard either. I am a personal brand.

Hey Brandyn, I sell my fucking name value, okay?

So if you like something that I made, you’re giving me money. If you go and you leave a testimonial or review, some fucking business person sees that and gives me a million dollars.

They don’t care that it’s about shit that’s free because I do a little bit of everything. They’re not even going to look at it.

I just have a lot of free time. I tell them whatever I need to tell them and they look at this and it’s pretty easy.

Life’s easy for me. That’s what I get out of helping you. “de nada.”

If it was hard I wouldn’t do it.

So since I have a lot of projects, I need to do something quick that I have some genuine enthusiasm for.

## What I Actually Get Out of This

Having something to drink. Having a little extra meat. Community engagement. Seeing some cool local stores where everybody there knows your name. A little romance, spending time with the girl.

What else is there? Oh yeah – time to think to myself.

I spend a lot of time meditating. I wake up when I want to wake up, probably about 80% of the time. I’m not really locked in when it comes to exact time for sleep. I can go 20% alpha male when I need to, but I’m just not taking it all that seriously.

Well, I started a business, so it probably went up to 30 or 40% effort.

I’m a big believer in the circle of life. I like to take it easy, man.

And then, I don’t brag about the results!

Sometimes it’s a day late, but it’s never a dollar short. I’ve put so much free time into it that it’s pretty easy to produce a great idea or to have something in the hands of the public at the right time. When it’s showtime, I just do it.

And in the meantime I’m just enjoying my life.

## How I Actually Use Social Media

A lot of the time I’m writing things … and it’s commercial.

You can look at my social media patterns and see that I post on LinkedIn when I need to make some money.

I may spend the week making posts about business in a kind of business-like tone, and during that time I’m out getting some business off of LinkedIn. Then I might slow down on LinkedIn for a while.

Then I might get on Twitter for a while. I really want to switch to Bluesky and I post on it sometimes. I try to give them some premium content, my subscribers there.

I think of the things that I write on a very small scale and things just roll off my back when I’m not stressing it.

I’m a natural ally of the people that I work with. When I walk into a room, people are like, “Hey Brandyn” and they need me more than I need them.

Generally. If somebody really hates my guts they just dismiss me outright. I’ve got a shoestring untied. I have a button out of place. I’m looking like the guy in the disaster movie who’s giving the science. My hair hasn’t been quaffed.

Or something. If somebody doesn’t like you, they’ll develop a reason.

## What This Book Is (And Isn’t)

I cover a few of these topics in _The No Boss System_, but that’s really like looking back at an old album. It’s really for people who don’t understand themselves and they just need a framework for thinking about their life in a positive way.

Now, if you are in that stage where you need a structure for building your personal life and self-esteem – shit, don’t blow your brains out – read _The No Boss System_.

But this book is different. This is mostly about platonic relationships.

I’m going to talk about romantic relationships. A fucking woman told me she loved me just last month. At 39, am I misqualified to talk about fucking relationships? Is anybody on the planet?

Old people tell me I’m handsome. And my advice is detailed, but it’s not very controversial.
